Restoring a Classic Car
Classic Car Project Overview
Steve bought the car in 2012 from a guy in Brisbane. It had small rust issues in a few of the doors that unfortunately due to the harlequin flame paint, could never be matched so it was a full respray.
Steve went to a couple of panel shops up in Townsville and they begrudgingly looked at it. The shops weren’t interested in patching the doors, they wanted new doors – can’t exactly go to the wrecker and get a set. That’s when Steve realised, they were basically spray painters masquerading as panel beaters and weren’t interested in this sort of thing, so Steve’s brother knew Jason and had a word with him. He took detailed photos and sent them down to give Jason an idea of where the rust was.
Jason was more than happy to do work on it, so Steve sent the car down 1600 kms on transport from Townsville.
Classic Car Project Scope
The scope was metal patch the doors, respray in the same Ford everglade green but replace the white with Mazda 3 pearl white and remove some of the excessive trim. It ended up being a full restoration back to bare metal with full custom respray.

“When I flew down when the car was finished, he even did a US Count’s Kustoms style reveal with bringing the car out of the shed. I was extremely happy with the result, he went beyond what I expected and he even marbled my steering wheel as a great custom touch
There was even a guy at the mines that I worked with that was so impressed, he had Jason do his Harley, with airbrushed skulls and custom paintwork.
His custom work is great and won’t disappoint, the car looks as good today as the day it left Jason’s shop all shiny and new, even after all these years. It always gets the thumbs up when out for a drive.“
